Wedding singer at Greenwich Yacht Club, London
Greenwich Yacht Club sits on the south bank of the Thames with the O2 on one side and the Thames Barrier on the other, and Kim and Will's wedding there was a lovely day out. It is the venue I point people at when they ask me for a wedding singer in London for something informal rather than formal.

When I played there
Kim and Will, summer 2019
Kim and Will wanted acoustic guitar music for their ceremony, their drinks reception and their first dance, plus an additional evening set to keep guests entertained.
There was no traditional sit down meal as such. They had a barbecue instead, which fitted the informal, relaxed feel of the whole day. Guests really enjoyed chilling out in the sunshine through the afternoon.

The rooms
The rooms, and what they do to sound
The clubhouse provided the setting for the ceremony: plenty of natural light and splashes of colour, and a very informal, relaxed room to sing in.
After the ceremony I moved outside onto the decking to play while guests had canapes and drinks. Outdoors beside the water is a different job from indoors, because there is nothing to reflect the sound back at you, so the PA has to do more of the work.
For the evening we moved again, into a separate building suspended above the water. Three positions in one day, which is fine, it just needs to be in the plan rather than a surprise.
How the day ran
What Kim and Will booked
Four parts of the day, which is the shape a relaxed riverside wedding tends to take. The guests seemed to really enjoy the evening set, especially the younger children, who were dancing away.

The practical bits
Access, power and getting set up
The day moved from the clubhouse, to open decking, to a building over the water, so the equipment moved twice. I will call your coordinator, ask about access, power and any sound limiter, which for a venue like this mostly means knowing where the outdoor power is before I arrive.

For coordinators
- One musician, one guitar, one mic stand, one PA. Footprint about 2m by 1m.
- Sets up in twenty minutes, packs down in twenty.
- Battery-powered PA available where there is no power.
- Public liability insurance, certificate sent to the venue on request.
- I will ring you the week before to sort out access, power and any sound limiter.
- I will always have a plan for the weather changing its mind.
